Chiral Adsorption Conformations of Long-Chain n-Alkanes Induced by Lattice Mismatch

چکیده

The adsorption and self-assembly of n-alkanes on graphite not only find value in applications related to lubrication surface passivation but are also fundamental importance the study molecule/substrate interactions. Their is classically described by Groszek’s model commensurate registry, which confirmed high-resolution scanning tunneling microscopy studies. Nonetheless, role chain length-dependent lattice mismatch between has been considered. Here, a systematic various length at liquid/graphite interface reveals existence stability limit for classical straight conformation postulated model. Once critical reached, increasing induces swerved that chiral. Experimentally, as well computationally, crossover from determined be 40 50 carbon atoms.

Extension of Linear Isotherm Regularity to Long Chain Alkanes

In this work, we consider each normal alkane as a hypothetical mixtureof methyland methylene groups, in which the interaction potential of each pair is assumed to be the average effective pair potential. Then, the LIR equation of state (EOS) is extended for such a hypothetical mixture. Also, three basic compounds, namely, propane, n-butane and cyclohexane, are used to obtain the contributio...

Preview You learned in the Chapter 1 that all organic molecules have carbon skeletons. These carbon skeletons show great diversity in the ways that C atoms bond to each other, and in their three-dimensional shapes. Alkanes and cycloalkanes consist entirely of carbon skeletons bonded to H atoms since they have no functional groups. As a result, they serve as a basis for understanding the structu...

Conformations of Alkanes and Cycloalkanes

Hydrogen peroxide is formed in the cells of plants and animals but is toxic to them. Consequently, living systems have developed mechanisms to rid themselves of hydrogen peroxide, usually by enzyme-catalyzed reduction to water. An understanding of how reactions take place, be they reactions in living systems or reactions in test tubes, begins with a thorough knowledge of the structure of the re...

Positronium Formation in Solid Long-Chain Alkanes

This paper represents a fragment of systematic studies on positron annihilation in solid saturated hydrocarbons (alkanes, paraffins) from C17H36 to C30H62. The Tao–Eldrup model and its extensions allow to identify the places in the crystalline structure where positronium is trapped, and estimate respective trap sizes. In the rigid phase I positronium locates mainly in two-dimensional empty spac...
